CultuRal and Fine Arts Commission (CFAC)

The role of the Cultural and Fine Arts Commission (CFAC) is to develop and establish a balanced arts and cultural program that promotes, enriches and advances the cultural and fine arts community.  The CFAC fulfills this mission by:

  • Assisting local arts and cultural organizations by encouraging support and cooperation among them; and, acting as a liaison between them and the City
  • Advising the City Council on all matters affecting the arts, culture and aesthetics of the City
  • Offering advice on arts, cultural or aesthetic matters relating to quasi-public buildings, cultural facilities and site developments within the community
  • Reviewing and monitoring the inventory of City-owned art, statuary, and cultural acquisitions

Specific programs and services implementing CFAC's mission include:

  • Sponsorship of the Student Art Awards Program
  • Selecting and honoring an annual "Treasure Artist of the Year" award recipient
  • Developing a public arts ordinance

The Cultural and Fine Arts Commission is comprised of seven members and an alternate.  It meets several times a year on dates to be determined.

Student Creative Arts Award

The City of Sonoma Cultural and Fine Arts Commission's Student Creative Arts Award Program is open to Sonoma Valley residents between the age of sixteen and twenty-one who are studying visual, literary or performing arts. 
 
Applicants must submit a completed application form, a 200 to 500 word statement explaining the role that art has played in their life and what their plans are for continuing their artistic training, AND a portfolio of at least five works. All applicants will be asked to participate in an interview by Commission members.

Treasure Artist

Annual Treasure Artists of the Year are nominated by the community and their peers for "outstanding achievement in a chosen artistic medium including the performing, visual, musical, literary and theater arts".
Treasure Artists are selected by the Cultural and Fine Arts Commission and honored at a reception.
