Storm Water Pollution Prevention Program - Construction Activities

Stormwater discharges from construction activities can significantly impact the quality of surface waters. As stormwater flows over a construction site, it can pick up pollutants like sediment, debris, and chemicals and transport them into the City of Sonoma's storm drain system or directly into one of Sonoma's creeks.

The City of Sonoma requires that construction site operators implement appropriate Best Management Practices (BMP's) to prevent stormwater runoff from their construction site from becoming polluted. Training resources are available below:

Prior to issuing a building or grading permit for soil-disturbing construction activities, The City of Sonoma requires that applicants submit an Erosion and Sediment Control Plan. The contents of the Erosion and Sediment Control Plan will vary based on the scope of the construction activities involved.
