Overview

The role of the Cultural and Fine Arts Commission (CFAC) is to develop and establish a balanced arts and cultural program that promotes, enriches and advances the cultural and fine arts community.  The CFAC fulfills this mission by:

  • Assisting local arts and cultural organizations by encouraging support and cooperation among them; and, acting as a liaison between them and the City
  • Advising the City Council on all matters affecting the arts, culture and aesthetics of the City
  • Offering advice on arts, cultural or aesthetic matters relating to quasi-public buildings, cultural facilities and site developments within the community
  • Reviewing and monitoring the inventory of City-owned art, statuary, and cultural acquisitions

Specific programs and services implementing CFAC's mission include:

  • Providing cash awards to high school seniors who show promising talent in the arts through its "Creative Arts Awards" program
  • Selecting and honoring an annual "Treasure Artist of the Year" award recipient
  • Developing a public arts ordinance

The Cultural and Fine Arts Commission is comprised of seven members, five of which must be City residents.  It meets at 5:30 p.m. on the fourth Thursday of each month in the Conference Room, City Hall, No. 1 The Plaza, Sonoma.
