A project to improve pavement conditions and enhance safety along West Spain Street will be considered by the City Council at its September 17, 2025, meeting.
This project will include pavement repair and replacement, restriping, and related improvements along West Spain Street. If the construction contract is awarded, work would be expected to begin within 60 days.
What’s Included
- Pavement repair and replacement to extend the roadway’s life and improve safety.
- Restriping to enhance visibility and roadway efficiency.
- Other improvements designed to support all modes of travel and improve the corridor for residents, visitors, drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians.
Bike Boulevard – What It Is (and What It Isn’t)
As part of the project, West Spain Street is proposed to be designated a Bike Boulevard. A Bike Boulevard is a street designed to give priority to people biking, while still accommodating vehicles. It typically includes features like pavement markings, signs, and traffic-calming measures to slow traffic and improve safety for everyone.
It is not a bike lane or bike path and does not remove existing parking. Instead, it makes the street safer and more comfortable for all users by encouraging slower vehicle speeds and creating a friendlier environment for people walking and biking.
