City of Sonoma Hires Dave Jahns as First Parks and Recreation Director

A headshot of Dave Jahns.The City of Sonoma is pleased to welcome Dave Jahns as its first Parks and Recreation Director. This new role, made possible in part by Measure T, marks a major step in enhancing Sonoma’s parks, recreation, and community services.

Jahns will lead the City’s newly formed department, overseeing 19 parks, trails, and preserves, three cemeteries, public art, community events, and recreation programming. With over 14 years of experience in municipal parks and recreation, he brings expertise in program management, capital projects, and community partnerships.

The department was created by restructuring existing City services to better coordinate parks maintenance, events, recreation, and public art. Jahns will begin on August 19, 2025. Early priorities include a Parks Master Plan, improvements to the Plaza, expansion of the Public Art Program, and continued collaboration with local recreation partners.
