Sonoma, CA – June 2, 2025 – The City of Sonoma is pleased to announce a call for artists for its new Utility Box Art Wrap Pilot Program. As part of the City’s growing Public Art Program, this initiative invites artists and artist teams to submit original artwork to be reproduced on vinyl and installed on utility boxes throughout Sonoma.

The pilot project aims to enhance the city’s visual landscape, celebrate local creativity, and reflect the cultural and natural identity of Sonoma. Selected artists will receive a stipend of $500 per approved design, with up to five boxes being wrapped during this initial phase. The City will manage the fabrication and installation process.

The Public Art Program, guided by the City’s Public Art Policy adopted in 2024, is dedicated to activating public spaces, supporting creative expression, and fostering community pride. The Utility Box Art Wrap Pilot is the first temporary installation project launched under the updated policy, which also made Public Art Fund dollars available for projects like this.

Artists of all ages are welcome to apply, with preference given to Sonoma Valley residents. Artwork should reflect themes such as local landmarks, agricultural heritage, native flora and fauna, or cultural diversity. Designs must meet specific technical and content guidelines and be suitable for public display.

The deadline to submit proposals is July 15, 2025, at 11:59 p.m.

Details, including full submission requirements, can be found online at: www.sonomacity.org/utility-box-art-program/. For more information about the City’s Public Art Program, please visit: www.sonomacity.org/public-art-in-sonoma/
