The Sonoma Ecology Center (SEC) will conduct controlled pile burns at Montini Open Space Preserve on Friday, November 7, as part of ongoing wildfire risk-reduction and ecological restoration efforts funded by the California State Coastal Conservancy.

While the park will remain open to visitors, some trails may be temporarily impacted during the operation. Please follow all posted closure signs and avoid work areas.

If you see smoke rising from the hills north of Sonoma Plaza during this period, there is no cause for alarm—these controlled burns are carefully planned and permitted activities designed to reduce wildfire fuel loads and promote ecological resilience in the preserve.

The planned burn is dependent on weather and air-quality conditions. The schedule may shift due to rain, wind, or air-quality restrictions.

For the latest updates, visit the Sonoma Ecology Center website or sign up for their e-newsletter to receive notifications about prescribed fire activities and other land-stewardship efforts.
