All residents 5 and older are now eligible for vaccination against COVID-19. As the Omicron variant spreads, health officials urge everyone who is eligible to be vaccinated and boosted, get tested, and to wear a high-quality mask.

Breakthrough cases in vaccinated people tend to be mild or asymptomatic; unvaccinated people are at far greater risk. People who are unvaccinated in Sonoma County are two times more likely to be infected with the virus, but they are 17 times more likely to be hospitalized if they get COVID and they are 13.7 times more likely to die from COVID. And according to the latest CDC’s national covid data tracker, people who were fully vaccinated with an additional or booster dose had lower case rates compared with those without an additional or booster dose.
