Hula in the Plaza

Hula in the Plaza is a Hula Mai’s annual Gift of Aloha to the people of Sonoma- a free one-hour show of authentic Hawaiian dancing to music by Faith Ako, the Bay Area’s beloved Hawaiian singer and recording artist. In 2020 Hula Mai will be celebrating its 11th Anniversary, so this show will include “the best” numbers from previous years as well as new additions to our repertoire. The show is also our opportunity to showcase the wide variety in hula- from ancient and sacred chants to the most modern – hula using percussion implements of bamboo, shells and gourds – and the so-called Golden Age of Hollywood Hula.

This one-hour extravaganza will also feature a free hula lesson in lieu of an intermission. It’s a lot more fun than walking around – we invite the audience to stand in place and follow us in a hula whose lyrics are — all about Sonoma.
