The planned prescribed burn at Montini Open Space Preserve is underway today, Monday, June 23rd. The operation is being conducted under ideal weather conditions by Sonoma Valley Fire District, in partnership with the City of Sonoma, Sonoma Ecology Center, CAL FIRE, and other agencies.
The goal is to reduce wildfire fuels, manage invasive species, and support long-term hillside and habitat health.
You may see smoke, flames, or glowing embers in the area during the day and into the evening. This is normal and expected for a controlled burn.
Smoke impacts are expected to be minimal, but people sensitive to smoke should take precautions.
The burn is visible on the Watch Duty app as a green flame labeled “Rx.” Please note that the app does not send push notifications for prescribed burns.
