FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
August 9, 2023

Sonoma, CA — The City of Sonoma (City) is excited to invite individuals from our vibrant community to contribute their expertise and insights by joining various commissions and committees. Available positions on City and Regional boards and commissions provide an avenue for active community involvement. This is a chance to play a direct role in influencing important choices, offering suggestions, and driving progress on matters that impact Sonoma.

Boards, commissions, and committees are advisory bodies that play a crucial role in local government by providing expertise, recommendations, and feedback on specific issues that affect the community. These commissions are typically made up of appointed community members who volunteer their time to contribute their knowledge and insights. Each body typically meets regularly and provides recommendations to the city council or other relevant decision-making bodies. The goal is to ensure that local government decisions are well-informed and reflective of community needs and aspirations.

Mayor Sandra Lowe emphasized the significance of community involvement: “Having local residents participate on our committees is the best way to ensure that the public is included in our decision-making. We know people are busy and it’s a lot to ask to add another thing to the plate – but it is very rewarding. If you ever thought about how the City works and how you can play a part, please apply.  If you want to find out more, please reach out via email and  we will happily discuss the process.”
