After a few light showers earlier this fall, the National Weather Service is reporting that a stronger system is on the way and is expected to bring widespread rain and gusty winds to the Bay Area, including the City of Sonoma, midweek.

What to Expect

  • Wind Advisory: A Wind Advisory is in effect from late Tuesday night through Wednesday afternoon for the North Bay, including Sonoma. Gusts of 35–45 mph, and isolated gusts up to 55 mph, are possible as the front moves through Wednesday morning.
  • Rainfall: Light showers could begin Tuesday evening, with steady rain early Wednesday and lingering showers through the day. Most areas are expected to receive 1–2 inches of rain, with higher amounts possible in the hills.
  • Impacts: Slick roads, scattered power outages, and fallen branches or debris are possible, especially during the windiest hours Wednesday morning.

How to Prepare

  • Secure outdoor items like patio furniture, umbrellas, and garbage bins before the wind picks up.
  • Charge phones and devices in case of brief power interruptions.
  • Drive carefully — roads will be slick and visibility reduced at times.
  • Check storm drains and gutters to help prevent localized flooding.
