The City of Sonoma is pleased to announce that the Chase Street Bridge over Nathanson Creek, connecting Broadway and Austin Ave, is now officially open to both vehicle and foot traffic! After months of hard work and dedication, we are excited to provide a safer and more efficient crossing for our community.

We would like to thank the neighboring properties for their cooperation and understanding during the construction period. To our community members, we are immensely grateful for your patience and cooperation as we worked to complete this vital project. We also extend our gratitude to our federal, state, and regional partners for their support throughout this endeavor.

About the Project

Overview: The project involved the replacement of the existing structurally deficient bridge, as identified by the California Department of Transportation (CalTrans). This crucial upgrade ensures safe passage for vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians alike. The new bridge features two vehicle lanes with shoulders and sidewalks on both sides, enhancing accessibility for all. The construction contract was awarded to Granite Construction Company, with construction management entrusted to Ghirardelli Associates Inc. The bridge was closed to through traffic on July 5, 2023.

Funding: We are pleased to inform you that this project has been made possible through a combination of federal grant funding and local match funding provided by Gas Tax and Transportation Measure M funds. Your tax dollars at work, ensuring the safety and connectivity of our community.

Thank you once again for your patience, cooperation, and support throughout this project. We invite you to enjoy the improved infrastructure and enhanced connectivity provided by the new Chase Street Bridge.
