Getting Around

Getting to, from, and around Sonoma can take many forms. Sonoma's downtown is very walkable, and we're a bicycle-friendly community, so park your car and start exploring.  Public transit bus services are supplemented by as private transportation options including taxis, rideshare services, limos, and tour companies.

If you’re biking to the Plaza, you can find bike parking at several locations as outlined on our Plaza Bike Parking Map, including the “hitching post” across from the Barracks and Toscano Hotel and at the bike parking sculpture along the horseshoe driveway in front of City Hall, among other spots.  Please note that bike riding in the Plaza park is not allowed, so park your bike when you arrive.

Downtown parking is available at two public parking lots, at no charge.  The largest is the Casa Grande lot, located behind the historic Barracks just north of the Plaza, with an entrance off First St. East.  There is a smaller public parking lot behind Sebastiani Theatre, with an entrance off East Napa St.  This lot includes designated parking for electric vehicles with charging stations.  Follow the signs around the Plaza.

On-street parking in Sonoma is also free, but some areas have time limits or residential permit requirements, so look for signage.  Street parking in the Plaza area is limited to 3 hours. To take your time and avoid a ticket, park in the public lots whenever possible.

A self-addressed envelope is provided with the citation. Enclose a money order or check payable to County of Sonoma. Please remember to include postage.  For questions regarding the ticket (e.g. lost citation, payment status), call (707) 565-1113.  Walk-in payments are accepted at 585 Fiscal Drive Suite 100 in Santa Rosa during business hours (Monday – Friday 8am – 5pm).

You may also complete and submit a form requesting review of a parking citation.

Both the Sonoma Police Department and City Hall have Parking Administration Request for Review forms. After filling it out, send the forms to the County of Sonoma Parking Administration located at 585 Fiscal Dr. Rm 100F Santa Rosa CA 95403. Once a decision is made, you will receive a notice of the outcome by mail.
