The City of Sonoma has launched a new online Public Records Request portal to make requesting information easier, more transparent, and more convenient.

What are public records?
Public records are documents created or maintained by the City as part of doing public business – such as reports, emails, permits, contracts, and other records that the public has a right to access under California law.

What’s new?
We now use NextRequest, a secure online system that allows you to:

  • Submit a public records request online
  • Track the status and progress of your request (new!)
  • Communicate directly with City staff in one place
  • Receive responsive records electronically
  • Search and view completed public records requests and released documents (new!)

Because completed requests are publicly searchable, you may be able to find the information you need without submitting a new request, saving time for everyone and increasing transparency.

Requests that are already in progress will continue to be processed. All new public records requests should now be submitted through the portal.

Submit or search Public Records Requests.
