Live Budget Dashboard

The City of Sonoma is committed to making financial information open and accessible to the community. To support this goal, the City has launched the Live Budget Dashboard, powered by OpenGov, the leader in government performance management.

This interactive, easy-to-use tool presents the City’s financial information visually — with charts, graphs, and numbers instead of spreadsheets — making it easier for residents to see how public funds are being managed.

What You Can Do with the Dashboard

  • See budget vs. actuals for the previous fiscal year
  • View near real-time data for the current fiscal year, updated nightly
  • Explore financial information by fund, department, revenues, or expenditures using simple filters and views
  • Gain a clear picture of how the City allocates and uses resources to serve the community

How It Works

The opening chart in the dashboard shows City-wide revenues and expenditures. Residents can then use the Filter and View tabs to look more closely at specific funds, departments, or categories. This flexibility makes it easy to follow the flow of City finances at both a high level and in detail.

Fiscal Transparency in Action

The City of Sonoma manages its finances through a multi-fund accounting system.

  • The General Fund serves as the City’s primary operating fund, supporting day-to-day services and core operations.
  • Other funds are dedicated to specific purposes, such as water operations, parks, and capital improvements.

By sharing both the adopted budget and actual results in a transparent, visual format, the Sonoma Budget Dashboard helps residents see how resources are planned, managed, and adjusted over time.
