Overview

Citizen participation is critical to the success of local government.  For persons seeking to participate in city government, the City of Sonoma offers many opportunities for citizens from all walks of life to become involved in the decision-making process.

City Council elections are held in November of even-numbered years.  Filing to run for the City Council usually runs from early July until mid-August. 

Applying for a position on a Board or Commission is easy.  Simply submit a completed application form to the City Clerk, City Hall, No. 1 The Plaza, Sonoma CA 95476 (707) 933-2216.  Applications are accepted for any Board or Commission year-round and are kept on file for ONE year.  Ads are placed in local newspapers whenever vacancies occur on any of the City Commissions.
