West Spain Street Improvement Project (CIP T-11)

Project Overview

Location: West Spain Street between First St W and Hwy 12

The West Spain Street Improvement Project (CIP T-11) will rehabilitate and resurface West Spain Street between Hwy 12 and First Street West to improve roadway conditions, safety, and accessibility for all users. 

The project includes: 

  • Pavement grinding, overlay, and localized base repairs 
  • New striping and pavement markings 
  • Sidewalk, curb, and gutter repairs where needed 
  • ADA curb ramp upgrades 
  • Traffic control and safety signage improvements 

This work is part of the City’s continuing effort to maintain and upgrade Sonoma’s public infrastructure.

Traffic & Access Impacts

During construction, West Spain Street will remain open to local traffic, but temporary lane closures and parking restrictions will be required. Access to homes and businesses will be maintained, though brief delays should be expected. 

What to expect: 

  • Temporary traffic control and detours 
  • Construction noise and equipment during daytime hours 
  • On-street parking restrictions in work zones 
  • Pedestrian detours around sidewalk repair areas 

The City and its contractor will make every effort to minimize disruptions and provide advance notice to nearby residents and businesses. 

Funding

This project is funded through a combination of local and state transportation sources: 

  • Capital Improvement Projects Fund (FY 2025-26 allocation) 
  • Gas Tax Fund (via September 2025 budget amendment) 
  • SB 1 – Road Repair and Accountability Act Funds (via September 2025 budget amendment) 
  • Measure M / Go Sonoma Program Funds (via September 2025 budget amendment) 

Total Approved Funding: $554,200
